Celebratory Assembly in school
The school community came together on Tuesday to celebrate the success of it’s teams during the year. Wins in badminton, debating, maths, rugby and soccer were all acknowledged. Mr. Dermot Brislane introduced each winning team on the day.
The first group to be introduced was the U16 Badminton team who won three school titles this year: County, Munster and All-Ireland Badminton titles. The second group were our two debating teams, who won the Lions Club Inter-schools Debating Competition and were Winners of the Grand Final of the UCC Philosophical Society Schools' Debating competition. The third group to be recognised were the two maths teams that won the Regional Finals of the Third year Maths Pi Quiz and the Regional Final of the Sixth year Team Maths competition. The next group to be introduced was our successful Senior Rugby team that won back-to-back U19 O'Gorman Cup finals. Finally, our U16 Soccer team that won the U16 South East Munster Shield Final were introduced.
Ms. Karen O'Donnell acknowledged the wide variety of successes this academic year both on and off the sporting field. She also praised the fine performances of our Rice Cup hurling team in reaching the Final. She thanked all teachers who volunteer their free time; meaning the school can offer such a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and she encouraged all students to avail of these opportunities.
This celebration follows on from two earlier celebrations in the year, the U17 A Dean Ryan Hurling Champions and the U19 A Dr. Harty Cup champions. Well done to all our students and their mentors on all our recent successes.
