The school debating team ably represented the school in Cork last night. Congratulations to Ms Alison Collins and Mrs Helena O’Gorman who mentored the boys through this process.
Three semi-finalists Bobby Quigley, Emmet Kennedy & Adam Hassett along with debate team researcher, Ian Shanahan travelled to UCC to take part in the UCC Philosophical Society Schools Debating competition.
To start the process, Adam Hassett delivered a fine speech proposing the motion that ‘this House believes the United Nations is a failing institution’, participating as a Semi-finalist in the UCC Philosophical Society Munster Schools Debating Competition.
Emmet Kennedy delivered a speech where he opposed the motion that this House believes that Eastern philosophy has more to offer the modern world than traditional Western philosophy.
Bobby Quigley also spoke on this motion. Bobby and Emmet progress through to the next round. Adam acquitted himself very well and following some constructive feedback from the adjudicators, lives to fight another day. Well done to all involved.
