Retirements
We would like to wish Mr. Paul Dolan and Ms. Bernie Boland the best of luck in their retirements after their many dedicated years of teaching service to St. Joseph's CBS Nenagh. The 1st of September marked the first official day of their retirement.
Ms. Paul Dolan taught Science, Agricultural Science and Biology and also ran the tuck shop for a number of years providing rolls and treats for students at break and lunchtime before the canteen was built. In 2012/2013 school year Mr. Paul Dolan was one of the main driving forces behind the successful "Leave Your Legacy" fundraising campaign that raised over €100,000 for a new school canteen and the Fr. Alec Reid Room which is used to address year groups by guest speakers and for assemblies. Paul was also a year head and always showed a great interest in the wellbeing of all the students and regularly displayed positive affirmation messages around the school and in the staffroom. Paul hurled with Nenagh Éire Óg after relocating from Roscommon. Paul was keen to pass on his love of hurling and trained a great number of Rice Cup teams here at St. Joseph's CBS over the years. Paul also decorated the school for Halloween and was always on hand to help with all school functions. We will miss seeing Paul walking the corridors in his infamous white science lab coat which he always wore, both within and outside the classroom.
Ms. Bernie Boland taught Maths and Science. Bernie acted as a Year Head in the past but more recently took on the role of Additional Needs Coordinator and was a key member of the Student Support Team. Bernie was an advocate for students with additional needs and was always highlighting ways to make teaching and learning as inclusive as possible for all students of all abilities. Bernie was instrumental in developing and improving our in-house procedures and systems for tracking students with additional needs and worked closely with parents, always ensuring that each student was catered for. Bernie also coordinated special centres for house exams and reasonable accommodations for state exams, with her colleagues in the AEN department. Bernie was also a huge support to staff and was giving of her time in always supporting colleagues.
We are sure many present and past students reading these notes will have many fond memories of their classes and their caring and encouraging words.
