Students at the CBS are offered the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of school trips during their time here –

Every second year, the school organises a ski tour to the Trentino region of Italy. We begin planning for the ski tour a full year in advance, offering the students and their families the opportunity to spread the cost of the tour over a 12 month period. Students and their families who have been involved in previous tours will testify to the excellent value for money this tour offers and the levels of challenge and enjoyment that have been experienced. The students stay in local hotels on a full-board basis. they receive additional ski lessons and are fully supervised at all times. The evenings are filled with a schedule of activities, encouraging the boys to experience the Italian culture where possible.

Every second year, in co-operation with St Mary’s Secondary School, the CBS offers two exchanges to Germany for students who are studying the language in 2nd and 5th Year. These exchanges have been running successfully for many years, with the students staying with host families so that they can be fully immersed into German family life and culture. In addition to these Exchanges, the German Department offers school tours of Germany and Austria with the most recent trip having been to Munich and Salzburg.

Our French Department also puts emphasis on language trips including home stays and exchanges. In 2015, our school exchange to France was reinitiated and we are now twinned with a school in Gaillac in the south of France. The students also stay with host families, attend school and experience French culture in a very cost-effective manner.

Students who take Leaving Cert History go on a bi-annual, overnight trip to Derry as part of their course requirements. This trip involves a visit to the Bloody Sunday Memorial Centre, a tour of the Bogside Murals, a visit to the Apprentice Boys Museum and a walking tour of Derry. This trip is a way of making History come alive for the students and offers them a first-hand experience of a piece of Ireland’s recent history.
